When I was a little kid, around every New Year’s, my mom and grandma would sit down and make Mandu {Korean version of potstickers or wontons} all day to make Teokguk {Korean version of wonton soup} and I’d just sit with them trying to help out. I remember trying to help out making my own Mandu, though not really successfully. Then my mom and grandma made their own mandu skins from scratch… And now… how grateful I am that I can get premade mandu skins so easily… although I think I should try and make my own skins sometime… It’s definitely on my to-do list.

But until then, these premade wonton skins would do. I’ve been looking for ways to use these little yummies in different kinds of cooking. I’ve always used wonton skins for just wontons… Then I saw that you can use wonton skins for ravioli… So I thought there must be other ways to use the skins, too. I guess you can use anything for anything you like. That’s what makes cooking more fun and adventurous, right? Seriously, my kitchen is like a lab. I do lots of experiments in my kitchen.

When I saw that you can use wonton skins to make little tacos, I immediately experimented with the idea. These little tacos are bite sized yummy goodness, I’ll tell you. They make a great appetizer… and also a great, light lunch!

I added ingredients that I love, like cilantro and avocado slices… So refreshing and delicious. When the skins are baked, they become crispy and crunchy.

Boil one chicken breast (boneless and skinless) until fully cooked. You can double the recipe if you’re cooking for more people. This recipe will be just enough for 2 people although I think that one person could finish these in five minutes.

Shred the chicken using two forks.

Add your favorite BBQ sauce (2 TBS) and sesame ginger dressing (2TBS) (I used the one from Trader Joe’s) to the chicken.

Add chopped cilantro leaves (1 TBS).

Add cheese (2 TBS) to the chicken mixture.

You will need about 8-10 square wonton wrappers.

Place about 1-2 tablespoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of a wonton wrapper.

Pinch two edges of the wonton skins together.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spray the prepared tacos with cooking spray. Bake at 400 degrees F for 10-12 minutes, or until the wonton skins are golden brown.
- 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast, boiled and shredded
- 8 square wonton wrappers
- 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce
- 2 tablespoons sesame ginger dressing
- 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro leaves
- 2 tablespoons Mexican cheese
- cooking spray
- 1 red chili pepper, seeded and sliced
- ½ avocado, peeled and sliced
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a bowl, combine shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, sesame ginger dressing, cilantro, and Mexican cheese together.
- In the center of wonton wrapper, place about 1 or 2 tablespoonful of the chicken mixture and pinch two edge corners together. Repeat with the remaining mixture and wrappers.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place prepared wraps on the baking sheet. Spray with cooking spray generously.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the wrappers are golden brown and crispy.
- Sprinkle with chili red pepper and serve with sliced avocados if desired.

These look yummy! Gonna have to try making them, but I may try adding some more toppings (I love the wonton tacos at Applebee’s, so probably something slaw-like).
These look awesome! When I don’t have the time, I like to use wonton skins to make anything that might require dough or crust. I love making little mini quiche with wonton skins in muffin tins!
Sook, this is fabulous; will be making some very soon.
Perfect size for me as I can’t eat large portions, thanks.
Hi,
What a great idea! They would be perfect as an appetizer for a party, or as a fun meal. Thanks for sharing:)
These look good. Lately, I've been making these with wonton wrappers which have included tacos and leftover seafood chowder in them. However, I bake them in mini muffin tins! 400 for about 8 minutes.
Found your site on Tastespotting. These look yummy and fairly easy – Can’t wait to try them! :) Here is another recipe using wonton wrappers and it is great!

this is such a brilliant idea and fab photos! thanks for sharing as I’m going to do just that the next time with leftover wanton wraps!
These look simply great. We can also layer them in a cup cake baking tray. They will look like tiny bowls.
These look awesome!
thoose arent TACOS… please RE-name
… an angry mexican!
What is up with all these people getting angry over what I name my food? Sigh. Sorry if it seems so offensive that I call these tacos, Alex. I personally don’t understand why you’re so angry over the name. I’ve seen so many Korean recipes that are not what they call they are, but it doesn’t make me angry. I just feel good because it seems to me that more people are more interested. This isn’t a traditional Taco recipe, no, but it’s an Asian idea of tacos and there are many different kinds of fusion tacos in Asian countries that many love. I will NOT rename this dish and I hope that you stop being angry over something so silly.
Thanks,
Sook
I guess he is angry over everyone’s idea of a taco. I have even seen taco cupcakes so….
I am going to be putting these on my to do list.
i think you have a troll in your blog. ignore their stupidity and carry on doing your thing. these people are probably not even worth glancing at sook.
Sook,
I think it’s brilliant! Way to be creative and share it with us! I’ll for sure give it a try. I thought your naming convention was clever integrating two cultures.
Seriously Alex, you have nothing else productive to do today so you to bully someone else. I love the idea and I am making the “tacos” tomorrow just in honor of you.
Alex,
I have a recipe for Mexican Stroganoff if you want it.
I made these with just a slight twist to it. I of course give you credit for the inspiration but if you'd like to read about it check my blog out in a couple of days.
Looks yummy..I'm gonna try it.

These were a hit. Great football snack

Morning Sook!
These look delicious!
I think I know where Alex is coming from.
When I am looking for an authentic recipe (IE: Korean) I get so frustrated when there is an N. American, or Italian take on it…. because I want the authentic recipe.
That said it won’t stop me from making these. They do look so so good!
It isn’t worth getting angry over ……….. life is too short!
Have a Joyful Day :~D
