I love Autumn for so many reasons. The weather. The beautiful red, orange colors everywhere. All the holidays. When I lived in Korea, there were other reasons that I loved about Autumn. And one of them was the street food. There are so many street foods in Korea and I love them because they’re not only cheap but also so delicious!! When it starts to get a little chilly, all the street vendors come out and sell all these yummy, warm snacks, like Teok Bok ki, Ho Pang, Oden (Asian style fish cake), etc.

Odeng (In Japanese it is Oden; Odeng is a Korean way to pronounce Oden) is one of my favorite things to eat during the chilly season. What I really love is the broth but the actual fish cakes are really good, too.

Odeng is made in many different shapes. I bought round ones but there are flat and thin oden as well, and that’s probably the most popular shape sold in Korea. The Oden broth is very good with spicy Teok Bok Ki. They’re kind of inseparable.. like hamburgers and fries. I used to order Teok Bok Ki and Oden together when I lived in Korea. The best combo ever.

I skewered cooked Odeng but you don’t need to if you don’t want to. Making the Odeng broth is really easy.

In large pan, place about 2 cups Odeng and add just enough water to cover the Odeng. Bring it to boiling and take out the Oden. Season the broth with water and add chopped green onions before serving. Skewer Oden pieces and serve with the broth. Easy, right?

Asian style fish cake is found at any Asian markets.

    Hi Sook,
This looks so delicious! I also love autumn and one of the main reasons is soup. I love the way the soup is presented. So fun. Thanks for sharing.
